Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this session is to outline the advantage of a well structured training process, and, as such, will take on a practical approach of periodization based on a broad theoretical background.

Main topics are:

Principles of adaptation in sport and exercise science

From novice to elite: multiple stages of training

Dynamic of training-variables

Practical approach for successful periodization

Performance assessment and monitoring of training

Applicability of training diaries

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance

Deadlines for written works throughout the course

Examination

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

As a result of attending this course students should have knowledge in:

Physiological adaptations in response to physical activity

Properly application of physical activity to recreational or elite athletes

Setting realistic and challenging goals for athletes

Implication of performance assessment into the training process

Analysis of data relevant for monitoring the training process

Examination topics

To provide the theoretical background of periodization. There will be an emphasis of the strong relationship between exercise physiology and applied exercise science. Across the several applications of training the cross-linking within this course will set a framework for future work.
