Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The aim of this course is to delve deeper into the matter of LV1, namely various dance and music styles (classical music, pop, rock, instrumental music). Students will gain skills in order to be able to efficiently impart their theoretical knowledge to students at school .Theoretical knowledge of lesson planning and execution of exercises is a necessity and further complements the course.Range of topics covered:basic gymnastics with and without hand apparatusesspecial techniques from classical gymnastics may vary and will be applied to non-traditional hand apparatuses (staves, umbrella, chair, ;)Examples of different areas (gymnastics, dancing) - basic stepsAerobics/ZumbaBreakdanceExpressive DanceContemporary DanceHip HopPilatesRope JumpingVideo-Clip-DanceYogaThe practical relevance of various exercises and skills as well as discussions about several challenges one may be faced with in PE class (e.g. small gym, incomplete equipment and kits, different performance levels, etc.) will further complement the course and will be discussed in the context of didactic concepts.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment:active and continuous participation (e.g. application of newly learned aspects, selfreflection), regular attendance, preparation and performance of an exercise with a hand apparatus (ball, rope, etc.) and two group choreographies, elaboration of lesson plans, instruction and critical reflection of a lesson, protocols and minutes; students will be asked to write a short seminar paper (3-5) on a theoretical aspect (didactic approach) incl. sources.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Objectives: Students- can apply didactic models to evaluate in-class learning processes that are based on gymnastic principles and dance sequences- can critically reflect and comment on their own experiences and movements- can use pre-existing knowledge (e.g. given principles in improvisation), develop it further and combine it with theoretical core aspects of sports sciences- can analyse music and use their findings as a foundation for the creation of new choreographies according to general composition rules- are endowed with deep knowledge of effective use of hand apparatuses and with the ability to efficiently and creatively imitate and adapt several dance styles according to their needsIn order to show the practical implementation of theoretical knowledge in PE class, students will be asked to create and present two group choreographies (different dance styles and variations) for different target groups (classes and performance levels).
Examination topics
Methodology:The acquisition and extension of students´ knowledge of new dance styles and the acquisition and implementation of more complex steps and combinations thereof (as suitable for different classes) will be further foci of this course.Basic core elements from ´Gymnastic and Dance´ will be repeated and combined with new steps and movements as to yield more complex dance sequences. Video recordings of the students´ performances and PPT presentations will provide visual aid to help students reflect on their work.Individual performance levels will be applied to actual movement sequences in a methodological and conceptual manner.
Reading list
Recommended reading list will be discussed in the first lesson and uploaded to Moodle.
