Aims, contents and method of the course
The course will cover give a broad and yet detailed overview of theoretical research in the three core topics in antitrust economics: (i) collusion, (ii) horizontal mergers, and (iii) vertical integration and restraints. In doing so, the course will combine both methods as well as policy-relevant economic ideas. The aim of the course is to bring students to the frontiers of research in antitrust economics so as to allow them to engage in research in the field.
Assessment and permitted materials
The assessment will be based on class participation and a take-home final exam. For the take-home exam, there is no restriction on the permissible materials. However, group work is not permitted.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
50% is required for a positive grade. The assessment will be based on class participation and a take-home final exam.
Examination topics
The examination topics are the topics covered in the course, i.e., (i) collusion, (ii) horizontal mergers, and (iii) vertical integration and restraints.
