Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is dedicated to advanced methods of demographic analysis. Participants get an overview of available national and international data sources that can be used to study social change along cohort lines. Using the statistical software R, the key concepts and measures of demographic research will be derived and explained. The course does not require pre-existing knowledge of R. A basic introduction to the software will be given at the beginning of the course. After completing this course, students should be able to conduct simple analyses related to questions around social change using suitable data.
Assessment and permitted materials
- Depending on the number of participants, a single or group presentation about one specific course area to be identified in class. Relevant literature will be provided
- Submission of a written essay on one of the other topic areas of the course
- Submission of the R-code and the corresponding data used for the related analysis. The topic will be chosen by the student and the course instructor in class.
