Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

According to the needs and wishes of the participants, the seminar will be (partly) held in English. Decision will be made during the first unit of the term.
The seminar is held for PhD candidates at the beginning of the research process. We will focus on methodological differentiaton among different forms of qualitative interviewing, followed by an overview and discussion of the main steps to be taken when carrying out diverse forms of in-depth and more structured forms of qualitative interviews. We will work with the hypothesis that qualitative interview forms usually work with the concept of narration or employing an interview guideline (Scheibelhofer 2008). Participants will choose a topic close to their own interests in qualitative interviewing and give a talk on it during the term. Discussion and inputs will contribute to a better understanding of research interests and the adequate modes of data collection and data analysis within the interpretative paradigm.
