The doctoral seminar will help to prepare the 9th annual Graduate Conference in European History (Graceh) in April 23-25, 2015, which will be hosted by the University of Vienna. For further information see https://graceh2015.wordpress.com/
Aside from these purposes related to Graceh, the seminar will serve doctoral students who are interested in theory and method and the discussion of their dissertation projects.

Aims, contents and method of the course

The doctoral seminar will help to prepare the 9th annual Graduate Conference in European History (Graceh) in April 23-25, 2015, which will be hosted by the University of Vienna in cooperation with the EUI in Florence and the CEU in Budapest. Doctoral students who would like to be engaged with Graceh are expecially encouraged to take part in the seminar.
Aside from these purposes related to Graceh, the seminar will serve doctoral students who are interested in theory and method and the discussion of their dissertation projects.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular participation, oral and written contributions, active contributions to discussions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The seminar entrains professionel skills such as presenting a scientific research topic at an international conference (GRACEH) as well as the application of methods and theories. Prtas of book chapters can be discussed together in regard of scientific writing style, structureof argumentation, plausibility, a.s.o.

Examination topics

The methodological basis for the discussion will be readings in comparative history, transferts culturels/Transfergeschichte, entangled history and other "relational approaches" in history and cultural studies.
