Aims, contents and method of the course
interdisciplinary reflections on the wide range of methodologies - philological, lingustic, historical, sociological, anthropological, or drawing on religious studies - employed in currently on-going PhD projects in different sub-fields of Middle Eastern studies. There will be a common focus on the nature of the data employed and on the pitfalls of their use.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students will actively participate in the discussions in class and will give a presentation on their own PhD project, highlighting in particular aspects of methodology and source criticism.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Participation in class and the presentation are obligatory; both count in equal measure towards the final grade.
