Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar deals with the question on which physical and evolutionary processes (related to astrophysics, atmospheres, but also in the context of planetary interiors) can lead to conditions on planets under which life can form and evolve, i.e., can produce habitable planets. The relevant factors include winds and radiation of the central star, dynamics within planetary systems, the gaseous and dusty environment of a forming planet, magnetic fields and others. Important physical processes are for example atmospheric erosion, atmospheric chemistry, resonances in planetary systems, accretion of atmospheres in protoplanetary disks, collisions of bodies, or transport of important molecules.

The seminar tries to put together an overview of these important aspects and should also answer the question in what stellar environments we can expect to find habitable planets.
