Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The literature has been positioned as a men's field for centuries. But as Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach said, "When a woman learned to read, the question of women came into the world." Women not only do make up a large part of the reading public, there are also women writers for all genres. In Russian literature the presence of women is already noticeable in the 18th century. Among other writers even the Empress Ekaterina II is to be mentioned as an author of theater pieces. In the 19th century one of the main women-writers was Nadeyhda Durova who wrote The Cavalry Maiden: Journals of a Russian Officer. In the 20th century there are numerous women in the Russian literature. The course pursues the goal of introducing subject-related texts and programmatic statements into the subject areas, issues and orientations of Russian poetry and music. We will read and listen selected texts of women's prose. Each student must also prepare a presentation of the selected topic.
