Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Understanding the history and culture of Bulgaria in the rupture and interaction between tradition (continuity) and the present (accelerated modernity) would undoubtedly be a productive perspective.Whether the ever-emerging traditions in the Bulgarian way of life are authentic or rather a substitute for modernity and what we are talking about when we look at the specific traditions of a particular region is discussed in the KO offered. On the other hand, the effects and consequences of modernity need to be analysed in more detail: i.e. to what extent modernity is a complete novelty and to what extent it represents a greatly altered tradition. The KO will also analyse how the current economic situation affects and re-articulates traditions (customs, rituals, celebrations of historical events and dates, cultural facts). The relationship between traditions and technologies will also be discussed, i.e. the representation of traditions in the virtual public sphere.Areas: Cuisine, music, dress, customs, cultural dates, history, culture/art, nationalism/multiculturalism.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation in the discussions; write a presentation on the topic offered.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Examination of the history, culture and current present of Bulgaria.
Examination topics
Texts (scientific or journalistic articles/treatises), video material (documentary films), which are discussed in the KO.
