Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course focusses on the connections between emotions and cultural phenomena. We will start with an introduction on selected theoretic concepts. Subsequently we will analyze texts, films, and discussions from the South Slavic regions to shed light on historically shaped traditions of emotional behavior and how they are assessed. Actual topics that polarize will also be considered. Among several thematic blocs we will discuss the cultural frames of emotional patterns in love relationships, dynamics of power, sexuality, religion, and arts. The course is planned to be discussion oriented. For every topic I will give some general input and together we will read/watch selected parts of the materials. On this basis shall subsequently be written individual essays. Some key ideas resulting from this may be presented in a cooperative radio emission on Radio Orange.
