Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In a world dominated by visual media, a critical, creative, and cultural approach to film is essential. Films not only touch our emotions but also convey knowledge, inspire thought, and open up new perspectives. This course offers a comprehensive introduction to film education, focusing on three key dimensions: critical analysis, creative production, and cultural reflection.

In the seminar, participants will explore how films can be utilized as tools for media literacy, cultural education, and creative practice. They will analyze films, create their own film projects, and develop concepts for their didactic application in the classroom. The program is enriched by engaging contributions from experts in film education, including representatives of the YOUKI Youth Film Festival, the Austrian Film Academy, and Wien XTRA. These organizations provide both theoretical and practical insights, as well as opportunities for Q&A sessions and discussions, inspiring students to actively and consciously use film as a versatile medium.
The course will be held in German

By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Analyze films as educational tools and reflect on their potential and limitations in teaching contexts.
Conceptualize and produce their own film projects (e.g., short films, documentaries, social media videos, fictional films).
Apply techniques of film creation (e.g., storyboarding, composition, editing) and engage in creative processes as a team.
Develop teaching concepts that integrate films as creative and critical tools.
Collaborate with experts in film education and incorporate their inputs into their own work.
