Syllabus: - What is a PhD? Why are you doing a PhD? - Discuss goals, values and career plans. - Planning: why and how to plan - Importance of monitoring and having metrics can you use to assess your efforts? - Develop an action plan - Interpersonal communication - Managing your supervisor and difficult conversations - Mentors and networking - Peer-group - How to create and direct a peer group Expected Learning Outcomes: - Reflect on goals and expectations for the PhD - Become acquainted with project management tools - Develop an individual career plan - Become aware of communication approaches that support effective professional relationships. - Build a peer learning group.
