This seminar, which will be held in English, aims at providing an overview on current methodological approaches in microbial ecology and complements the lecture on "Methods in Microbial Ecology". Each participating student will be asked to present an extended summary of distributed literature on a selected topic, which will be discussed subsequently by all participants. Topics covered will range from molecular methods for the identification and functional characterization of uncultured bacteria, up-to-date cultivation techniques, DNA microarrays and environmental genomics.
