Aims, contents and method of the course

ECTS-points: 3
This course is an introduction to the computer simulation of quantum phenomena in condensed matter systems. The course presupposes some basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics. Topics include: Schrödinger equation, Born-Oppenheimer approximation, Hartree-Fock, perturbation theory, density functional theory, tight binding, empirical valence bvond models, path integrals in real and imaginary time, centroid molecular dynamics, semiclassical methods, calculation of optical spectra.
