Role of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) in the context of the earth system, general characteristics of the ABL, characteristics of the stable and unstable ABL and its typical diurnal variation, turbulence in the atmosphere (mathematical models, measurement and characterisation), heat balance at the earth's surface as lower boundary condition and its parameterisation, inner and outer boundary layer, typical profiles and methods of parameterisation, similarity approaches, budget equation of the turbulent kinetic energy, boundary-layer models, pollutant dispersion in the ABL and corresponding models.
