Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course can be viewed as a supplement to the course on "Discrete Mathematics". We study the book "Lectures on Generating Functions" by S.K. Lando. The main ideas are introduced on the basis of examples. Content: 1) Formal power series and generating functions, 2) Generating functions for well-known sequences, 3) Unambiguous formal grammars. The Lagrange Theorem, 4) Analytic properties of functions represented as power series and the
asymptotics of their coefficients, 5) generating functions of several variables, 6) Partitions and decompositions, 7) Dirichlet generating
functions and the inclusion-exclusion principle, 8) Enumeration of embedded graphs.
