Aims, contents and method of the course

Astronomy as a quantitative science is based to a large extent on methods of mathematics and physics. This lecture tries to cover all relevant
subjects in a more illustrative than abstract way. The contents of the two-term course is:
Mathematics: Series expansions, differential equations, special functions, perturbation theory, complex analysis, integration, Fourier and Laplace
transforms, vectors and vector analysis, tensors, probability theory.
Physics: Selected problems of Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics,
Thermodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics.
