Spectroscopic investigations are an unavoidable condition for the understanding of new materials. The lecture provides an introduction into current methods which were established in the last few years. In particular the following techniques will be discussed: Infrared and Raman spectroscopy, Photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS, ESCA), Spin resonance spectroscopy (NMR, ESR, mSR), Electron-Energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), Neutron scattering.
The book "Introduction to Solid State Spectroscopy" by H. Kuzmany, from March 1998, serves as a basis for the lecture.
To understand the lecture firm knowledge is required in general physics as well as basic knowledge in quantum mechanics and solid state physics.
