The lecture offers two approaches to it´s topic. Concepts and theories will be presented within a "classical" style of lecturing, supported by multimedia. Case studies alongside selected ephemeral films inform on research strategies in the field of cultural history and the archival sciences.

The lecture aims to transfer basic theoretical and practical knowledge needed to analyze and interpret audiovisual sources. It serves as an introduction into the new research fields of "visual history" and the "pictorial turn".
