Examination topics
All the content of the lectures plus all the readings. Students will do best who attend the lectures and read the required texts attentively in advance. The teacher enjoys a pro-active audience, so students are encouraged to ask questions. Careful philological preparation of the readings as well as critical thinking about general issues will be required to do well on the exam
Assessment and permitted materials
Grades will be determined by performance on a tripartite exam, involving “rich” identifications, translation(s), and an essay. There will be some choice. For students wishing to take the course for EC, a “gobbet” (“close reading” of a passage in translation) will be substituted for the translation. The language of instruction will be German, but Erasmus students or visitors are free to write their exams in English, French, or Italian, should they wish to.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students must be able to handle the Latin texts assigned din the original, unless they are enrolled as EC-Students
