Assessment and permitted materials
This course uses continuous assessment (hat immanenten Prüfungscharakter), consequently active participation throughout the semester (both in class and outside it) heavily influences the grade. This means being prepared for class, submitting homework in a timely manner, volunteering, answering and asking questions, participating in group exercises etc.
There'll also be a final exam where students will be asked to translate a text that is new to them.No materials or aids are permitted during tests or exams. Exceptions can be made on request for students with a handicap.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The course total is made up of active participation (30 %), homework (30 %) and final (40 %). If this weighted score is lower than the final's, only the final counts. (This is to account for the fact that the course is technically a lecture.) The total is then converted to a grade as follows:
> 87,5 % Excellent (A) [Sehr Gut (1)]
> 75,0 % Good (B) [Gut (2)]
> 62,5 % Satisfactory (C) [Befriedigend (3)]
> 50,0 % Acceptable (D) [Genügend (4)]
<= 50 %: Failed (F) [Nicht Genügend (5)]Note that a passing grade requires having been present for at least 80 % of lesson time and that tardiness may be counted as absence for the purpose of determining this percentage at the discretion of the lecturer. There is a strict zero tolerance policy on cheating and plagiarism.
