Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Primary goal: The major goal of this course is to endow students, on the basis of ample empirical evidence, with an understanding of language history and pathways of language change, based on both philological skill and linguistic knowledge.
Secondary goals: Understanding of the cognitive foundations of morphological processes and their status in a general framework of grammatical theory.
Acquisition of basic knowledge of current theories and models of linguistic morphology.
Approaches to a diachronic perspective on morphological change, which will be deepened in a subsequent course.
