Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Primary goal: Morphology as a basic component of grammar will be presented in its relation to the other components of the language system. By means of selected examples the typological dimension of the parameter word structure will be outlined, with special regard to functional criteria.
Secondary goals:
Understanding of the cognitive foundations of morphological processes and their status in a general framework of grammatical theory
Acquisition of basic knowledge of current theories and models of linguistic morphology
Approaches to a diachronic perspective on morphological change, which will be deepened in a subsequent course
