This course is an introduction to software engineering and programming with particular focus on the fundamentals of software design and programming principles using real-world problems. It explores fundamental concepts and techniques relevant to the production of software systems, in which different aspects of the software process and lifecycle ranging from collecting requirements to designing, implementation, and maintenance are discussed.

Examination topics
Knowledge on programming languages and software design will be presented and discussed via lectures. This knowledge will be applied through direct implementation and experiment of realistic development exercises.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written exam with the following grading scheme:
>= 87,50%: 1 (sehr gut);
>= 75,00%: 2 (gut);
>= 62,50%: 3 (befriedigend);
>= 50,00 %: 4 (ausreichend);
< 50,00%: 5 (nicht bestanden).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental design and programming principles and techniques for designing and implementing software systems. The emphasis of the course is on learning and applying design and programing techniques with realistic development settings.
