Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the 13th and 14th centuries a great number of manuscripts containing literature of various kinds (both prose and poetry) was produced in Wales. In this course the most important of these manuscripts will be introduced in seminar papers: on the one hand the dating of the ms., its place of origin, its contents etc. will be dealt with; on the other hand one central text from each ms. will be introduced and presented in translation.

Assessment and permitted materials

The certificate is obtained by giving a presentation and writing it up as a seminar paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course is intended to make students of Celtic Studies familiar with the Welsh mss. and with the literature contained in them, i.e. both with their language and with the cultural background presented by them.
